Old age is considered the last stage in the life of a human being, it begins at age 60 and is part of aging. In countries like Mexico, the majority of older adults die from conditions such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
The National Institute of Older Adults (INAPAM) states that between 2000 and 2050, the proportion of the planet's inhabitants in this stage will double, going from 11% to 22%. Unfortunately, in our country this sector is considered one of the most forgotten, and companies and the government must pay special attention to the problem.

About 15 employees from companies such as Office Depot, Petco, The Home Store, Hotel Presidente Intercontinental de Polanco, Hotel Hyatt, Hotel Presidente Santa Fé (hotel chains belonging to Grupo Presidente), enjoyed a pleasant time at the Casa Hogar del Anciano , an asylum located in Toluca, State of Mexico.
The call to support this cause was carried out through Fundación Gigante among the Group's collaborators and they were invited to donate winter clothes for the grandparents. Some volunteers attended to give them the gifts and spend time with them.
Miguel Ángel Mena Alarcón, president of the board of trustees of the Casa Hogar del Aciano, stated that the elderly residents of the place felt very happy and flattered by the presence of the collaborators.
What is a “Gift to a Grandparent”?
Gift to a Grandfather is an initiative belonging to JAPEM (Private Assistance Board of the State of Mexico). The campaign arose with the purpose of supporting grandparents and awakening respect and love for older people, values that have been lost over time.
This invitation is launched on institutional social networks, and in 2019 the participation of Fundación Gigante was crucial, since the company's collaborators put their hearts into the cause, as well as their good intentions and time.

Fundación Gigante is characterized by having a close bond with the community since it always consolidates its actions thanks to its three guiding axes: education, health and support in natural disasters.
Currently, 38 older adults live in the visited nursing home, the majority of whom are women. It is open to the public all year round to welcome those who wish to share their time with them.
On the other hand, the results of this social project were satisfactory:
600 winter clothes for grandparents were collected.
15 volunteers attended the delivery of the clothing and coexistence.
The garments were distributed in 8 nursing homes distributed in 11 municipalities of the entity, benefiting 352 older adults.
